Charitable Foundations and Trusts

Let Us Help Extend Your Legacy

Charitable Foundations and TrustsSetting up a charitable trust or private foundation is an incredible way to give back to your community and will help extend your legacy long after death.

With a charitable foundation or trust, you can help support what is near and dear to your heart, such as: churches, cultural institutions, food banks, educational scholarships and grants, medical research…etc.  You decide.

Private Charitable Foundation

Establishing a private charitable foundation allows you to give and support the charity (or charities) of your choice, or you can leave it up to the foundation’s trustees, as long as the choices fall in line with IRS policies.  Foundation guidelines require that a small percentage of the assets in the trust be distributed to a charity each year.

Establishing your own foundation can also lead to substantial tax benefits, potentially lowering your capital gains, estate and ordinary income taxes.  When you transfer assets to the foundation, they are removed from your taxable estate.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

Establishing a charitable remainder trust allows you to transfer your appreciated assets out of your estate (eliminating their estate taxes when you pass) and into an irrevocable trust. The assets may be sold and re-invested by the trustee into income producing assets if you so desire, or they can remain as they are. This allows for an upfront charitable donation tax benefit, elimination of capital gains tax, and then pays you an income for the remainder of your life.

When you pass, the remaining assets in the trust are distributed to the charity (or charities) that you designated as the recipients when establishing the trust.

There are many options available for you in setting up one or more charitable organizations, which will allow you to accomplish whatever your specific goals happen to be, and which can provide you with a host of advantages, including tax savings and the establishment and protection of your legacy.
